I had the beach to myself

With all the beach walks and bike rides I do, some people are surprised that I still have a full time job! I am just able too squeeze in the time for fun!

Yep! from long before 7 AM to 330 PM weekdays I am on the phones working for a local insurance company we will call the Mighty P1

I work in the claims department, and truly I am on the phones all day long!

I started at the Mighty P as a young pup in 1991.  Back then, I was convinced only old people retired, and soon after they didm they just gave up and passed away... I never gave a thought to getting to the point that I wanted to leave work.

30 some odd years later, I am still a workerbee. I am damn good at it, but honestly, I am tired of doing so.  I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but its a ways away. I still have many MANY more work days ahead!

I won't lie. If I was stuck still going into an office everyday, I would be a very unhappy person!

Luckily, a little less than 5 years ago, 2 years before the world shut down for covid, my wife and I were lucky enough to be allowed to move to the Oregon coast!

Instead of pavement, traffic and noise, we were able to move to the land of waves.

No exaggeration, 5 - 10 minutes after the work day stops, I can be on the beach walking and enjoying life!

In the summer time I have to share the beach with so many others. Luckily I am not a greedy person, so I am happy to share!

This time of year, though, a week from the start of winter, sharing is not a problem!

Last night, I was able to sneak in a 90 minute walk before it got dark! And as you can see by my footprints, I had the whole beach to myself!

I loved it, but that is not what put a smile own my lips

As I walked the beach the wind blew the freshest air ever past my face.

The waves crashed so loudly, I couldn't help but let the sound wash over me.

But then I looked over the waves, and the sunset let me know the world would be OK for another day

Without a doubt, no matter how stressful the work day can be, at the end of a beach walk, I am a smiling guy!

The work day was long and stressful, but I survived!

At the end of the walk, I flat forgot about work!

Use the beauty in the world to overcome the world doldrums!

Get outside and just enjoy life! Smile, laugh and find the wonder in the world around you! Trust me, you don't need an ocean to make you happy, just have a heart that can ket the joy in!

OH! and go to the ocean! A beach walk is not a requirement! But it don't hurt!

  1. We live in McMinnville after retiring 3 years ago. We try to get to the coast once a week if we can. Doesn’t always happen but always feel refreshed when we do. Enjoy your posts!

  3. Oh my goodness, has it nearly been five years already!?! I love that you make a point to get out to the beach every day. When I lived above Golden Gardens in Seattle, I used to walk to Sunset Hill Park, sit on a bench, and watch the sun set every evening. Sometimes I'd even interrupt my dinner mid-meal to make the walk. The park was super busy in the summer months, but when the weather turned cold and rainy, few ever came to Sunset Hill. Some of my most favorite visits were when I had the whole place to myself -- the whole Puget Sound and all the Olympics on the far side of the water.
